The Decatur Daily Living Today, Sunday, September 9, 2007 Acupuncture Patricia Bryant of Decatur, 51, said she has smoked almost all her life. "If you've been smoking for 40- plus years, you can't just wake up one morning and say, 'I'm going to quit.' ""I've had some success before, and I've tried most everything laying 'em down, the nicotine patch, the Quit Assist prescription pill, and prayer, too," she said. Her most recent effort to stop involves acupuncture treatments with Dr. Loren Hunter of Life Essentials in Decatur. "Smoking is a nasty habit. Sometimes I can't stand the smell or taste of cigarettes, and I don't know why they are so comforting to me, but they are," Bryant said. "I can't get rid of the habit of going outside with a cigarette after I eat. But I'm trying." Hunter, who has a docurate in acupuncture from the University of Hong Kong, explained the smoking cessation patients would typically get about five sterile, 1 1/2-inch needles in each ear. Fort-five minutes later, after listening to music through headphones, you're done. "And there's no pain to it, by the way," Hunter said. He estimates the success rate at 96 to 98 percent ! "This works whether you believe in it or not," he said, by removing the front lobal craving, "and after three days, most don't want any more cigarettes." He charges a one-time fee of $50 for the anti-smoking treatment, with follow-up visits free. He often treats several problems at the same time, perhaps combining weight loss or arthritis with quitting smokind. One man who st opped smoking in the typical one visit told everyone at his plant, and Hunter treat 30 others from there the same month. "Every one quit smoking, except that it took about 10 visits for one who didn't really want to stop," he said. One man who had tried Wellbutrin, hypnosis and everything else went right out and lit up in the parking lot. "He said, 'What did you do to me? This tastes awful,'" said Hunter, "And he hadn't had another one."
Dear Dr. Hunter, On August 7, 2008 our nest expanded by two tiny feet our beautiful daughter Macy Victoria was born. She weighed lb. 12 oz. and was 20". She is our miracle gift from God and the light of our lives. After years of struggling with infertility and trying many traditional fertility treatments without any results God put you in our lives and with your help we have been blessed with a beautiful baby! Thank you for all that you have given us. Randy and Miranda Y.
Dear Dr. Hunter and Staff, My name is Shelia C. and I had a scheduled visit for acupuncture treatment yesterday, 5-15-08. First, I would like to thank you and your staff for being so courteous and professional. Your kindness was most overwhelming. I was a little nervous about having this done, even though I had friends and co-workers who had filled me in with the details previously to the visit. The explanation of the procedure you gave and your friendliness made me feel most comfortable and relaxed. Second, I would like to thank you, Dr. Hunter, for a great night sleep, which I have not had in a while. I know you told me I would need more procedures to get completely straightened out with my problems, which I intend on doing. But the difference one treatment made is overwhelming. I would like to thank you guys once again for being so helpful and kind. I am looking forward to my next visit. I just hope my friends I have stared my experience with will come for their visit and have the same overwhelming experience. Thanks and May God Bless, Shelia C.
Regarding Alexandria G. Allie is taking a Papaya Enzyme by Bot-Med given to her by Dr. Loren Hunter the acupuncture doctor. She takes two of these before every meal to her with the uric acid. He also gave her Chlorophyll Aloe Vera Juice by Dynamic Health Laboratories, Inc. 1 tablespoon every night before bedtime for internal cleansing and aids in the digestive process. (Allie says she can tell a difference when she doesn't take this). Along with the low sodium diet he has also restricted her from all chocolates and no sugar. She has cut all carbonated drinks and caffeine from her diet and she drinks a lot of Penta water (very expensive, but hydrates twice what regular spring water does) and we get this from a local health store. The diet limits Allie from so much, however, we have shopped around and give her somewhat of a variety to her from missing out. We have seen positive results relieving her from her pain and the acupunchurist. We inisially went to him for 4 visits (Dec. 9-12, 2008) and have only had to return once since Jan. 28, 2009. She received immediate relief from him and the diet seems to really help also. She is no longer on the Lisinopril and does not take Loratab at all. She has learned some pain management methods from reading on the internet. However we have not seen a pain management specialist. Listening to music and not baths seem to calm her and ease the pain. Don't get me wrong, she still hurts, but it is not keeping her from doing what she loves. She seems to have it under control and we know that relief is one phone call away with Dr. Hunter. Since she has started going to him her bad attacks have lessened considerably. We are still learning from this and are open to suggestions and when we see something that works we stick with it. We continue to change things to help her adapt, but we have come a long way. Allie is determined that this condition is not going to keep her from enjoying life and she keeps us all going. Thank you for asking and if we can help others with this condition we will be glad to. Pam G. (Allie's Mom)
